MANNERS SHMANNERS

So, yeah, my kids need a serious lesson in tact. And manners. And knowing when to keep their traps shut.

Me: (sitting quietly eating my lunch, and minding my own business.)

Thing1: (at the top of his lungs) Look at that old lady over there! She has lots of wrinkles and gray hair. Is she going to die soon?!

Me: (slouching down as to not be seen, while my face turns bright red, and whisper-yelling like any good mother would) We do NOT say things like that. You know better!

But I have to be honest and say that I was laughing on the inside. Hysterically. Where does he come up with this stuff?

OPEN LETTER PART 2

Dear MM,

You suck!

But you don't win. After further thought on the subject, I've decided you can have the nightime wakings. It's by far, hands down, the worst part of mothering anyhow. Waking up all groggy and desperatly tired, wishing you were still asleep. Yeah, you can have those crappy night time wakings. I can live without 'em. I can't say though, that Hubs isn't going to be a little more pissed at you from now on, but as for me, I'm over it.

Amy

OPEN LETTER

As most of you know I am going through a difficult time with my health right now. And for some reason I'm having a hard time discussing it. But a few days ago I had a brilliant idea that I got from my friend Aimee. I've decided to write letters to my disease. And as strange as that sounds writing about it is really helping. Being able to direct my feelings toward someone (or something) is turning out to be just what I need.

I'm not sure if this is a great idea to post these. Makes me feel super vulnerable, but I'm hoping that in some strange way it will help. I've been holding on to these, and well, I just need to get rid of them. Post them, and then move on. So, I'm sorry if these make you feel uncomfortable. Please feel free to not read them. I know they are not typical Naptime style, but well, life isn't so typical anymore.

Dear MM,

I hate what you are doing to me. Stealing part of my life away.

Tonight, for the first time, you stepped in and affected my world. I've been dealing with you for some time now, your sneaky annoying way that you are always there, reminding me that life is no longer as it once was.

You've robbed me of my hearing. You've taken away the simple ability to focus and enjoy social situations as I once did. But by far the most annoying thing you have bestowed upon me is the incessant ringing. This fire alarm going off in my ear 24/7 is just plain cruel. No one should have to live this way. And often the thought of having to, makes me depressed and anxious. Sometimes the simple thought of not EVER being able to just hear silence scares me so much. But all this, annoying as it is, I know I can handle. Some days you are more fierce and belligerent than others, but I always know that I can get through it. I know that if I can just keep my head above water, keep putting one foot in front of the other that you can't steal my life away. You won't win. But tonight that all changed.

Tonight you stole something so precious to me. And I hate you for it. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, but above all that I am a Mother. It is who I am at the core of my being and what I love to do. And tonight you took that away from me. And it is killing me. I awoke just a few moments ago by Hubs. I didn't hear a single thing. Just my fire alarm like always. I awoke because I felt him get out of bed. As he was quickly walking out of the room, I realized something was wrong. When he got back I asked him if everything was okay. He told me that one of the children had waken up and was crying. Nothing that a quick hug couldn't fix. He got back into bed, and promptly went back to sleep. I on the other hand did not. I was confused. A child was crying? And I didn't hear it? How could that be? Then I realized it was because of you. You had taken this from me. Being able to hear my child. Being able to help him. I feel robbed. Violated. And it makes me so sad. I'm crying so hard I can't sleep. For the first time you have robbed me of the opportunity to be a mother. I have NEVER slept through a child waking up in the middle of the night. EVER. But as you are well aware, the symptoms you give me are far worse by night than by day. I am saddened by the thought that I couldn't hear him. That I can't hear him. And you took that from me. Took the opportunity from me to mother. To console, and to love. And I hate you for that. I hate you so much.

TUESDAY'S TIP WATER BLUSH

Okay, so I realize that it's not Tuesday, but well, just go with it.

So, this one is for all you girls out there. Now, I've never been much of a makeup girl. In fact, I've probably only wore eyeshadow like 4 times in my life. One of them being my wedding. I hate putting it on and taking it off. And more than anything, I HATE to feel like I am wearing makeup.

But I have a confession. You know how most girls won't go out in public without mascara? Well, I am like that about blush. Seriously. I think I might be addicted to blush, and this one in particular. I probably wear too much because of it, but for some reason I just don't feel awake without blush. I know, I need help. But color is just good. Makes me feel healthy and alive. That's not a bad thing right?

Well, before two weeks ago I was a powder blush kinda girl. Only thing was, it would look great for a few hours, and then before too long I was looking dead. Blush would literally fall off. And well, sure I've tried cream blushes, and lets just say yes they stay on all day but it also feels like you have an oil spill on your chicks. All gooey and just no. Then one day I was browsing Tarjay and came across this little beauty.

It's called Water Blush by Pixi beauty. Pixi makeup is a company based out of London, but they sell their products at Target. Fab-u-lous. So, I see it in all it's liquid glory, and well, since I'm a sucker for blush I decide to give it a go despite it's $20 price tag. And well, I have to say, it's simply lovely. I put it on once in the a.m. and it stays put. Seriously. It looks EXACTLY the same when I head in to go to bed. No need to reapply when you go out for the evening. And no need for goo cheeks. But beware. This little tube of water is potent. It only takes like one or two drops per cheek. I rub it in with my finger and then go over it with a q-tip to take the top layer off. And I look sunkissed all day. It comes in two colors. One more pink and one more orange.

So, if you, like me, HATE reapplying blush, then next time you are at Tarjay give this little bottle a go. Sure it's $20 but I'm certain that it will last into the millennium.

Pixi Water Blush
Target
$20

P.S. Thanks for all those of you who have called or e-mailed or talked to me in person. I didn't mean to scare any of you. Life certainly has been interesting lately. But I've decided that well, yes, blush is stupid. Really stupid. And blogging about it is even more so. But for some reason, I like too. I know it makes no sense. But for now, I'm going to try to keep plugging along. Keep doing the things that brought me joy before. Everyone is dealing with shit. That's life, right? My shit isn't any more worse than yours. I just seem to be really crappy at handling it. Come Wednesday, I'm hoping answers will help. And maybe one day I will get the cahotes to blog about it. Okay, this is getting cheezy. Thanks for reading, supporting, and just being there. The end.

YOUR DAILY GIGGLE

Okay, so I realize Naptime has been a little heavy on the videos lately. And British ones at that. Sorry about that. But, today I watched this not-so-little interview, and it made me laugh. Out loud. This is Zac Efron at the Graham Norton show over in London. I'm going to have to check and see if this is on BBC America because dang are these guys funny. And I'm always up for funny.

Check it out if you'd like!

Au Naturale

So, my friend Jenny let me in on one of Salt Lake's little known gems. It's a healthy fast food joint here in Sugar house. It's called Au Naturale and from my visit today, I can tell you I will definitely be back.
Here is a picture from the outside. It's located on 2100 S. and 800 E. They are open for breakfast 6:30-10:30 a.m. and open for lunch and dinner starting at 11 a.m.

Their food is healthy, tasty and completely natural. I love the drive thru option. Today my kiddos and I sampled the Vegetable and goat cheese wrap, sweet potato (baked) fries, and the acai berry frozen yogurt. And it was all absolutely fantastic. Sure it's a bit pricey, but I feel better putting this kinda food in my body (and my kids') than all that other crap out there. The sweet potato baked fries might just be a new addiction of mine. Yum-o!
Some of their other eats include a Roasted yam & Black Bean burrito, grilled southwest chicken sandwich, house made chicken pot pie, house-smoked bbq pulled pork, soups, salads and some delicious healthy deserts. Plus, I love a company that will happily put their nutritional information on their website (hello Cafe Rio!!?) and they stand proudly behind it. I like to know what I'm eating. They have plenty of vegan, vegetarian, gluten -free and low-salt options. Thankyou Au Natural!
So, if you are in the market for some healthy eatin head on over to Au Natural. Trust me, for health food, you won't be disappointed.

OH. EM. GEE. I WAS RIGHT! WELL. . . .SORT OF.

Okay, now I realize everyone and their dog is blogging about this today, even those that normally don't, but I thought I'd go ahead and throw out my two cents anyhoo.

Okay, well, my first thought, honestly was, What a douchbag. I realize that's not a pretty word, but really, it is exactly what I was yelling at the tv.

I just don't get it. I mean, I get that you can really like two people at once, even date two people at once, but love? Now that's a strong word. And love enough that you want to propose to them? Uh, no. I mean, I realize the guy was confused, but I had to scream when he said he didn't know what he was going to do the day of the proposal. Gag me with a spoon Jason. Uggg.

So then, he picks Melissa and they all jump into the pool. Barf.

And then? Decides in six week,( SIX WEEKS people! ) of dating that he just isn't that into her. Oh, give me a break. They were never "in love". And everyone knows it. I wish they could just stop saying that already. They really really like each other. But love? Come. On.

Now, I can't decide if this is a production-pulled stunt or what. Cause I will be the first to admit that it made for fantastic TV. Just ask Hubs. I was laughing and yelling and booing. Crazy. I'm just glad I got to watch it after I got home from yoga. No commercials is the only way to watch the Bachelor. 3hours? Puh-leeze. Who has that type of time?

Okay, so I guess I just think Jason needs to be by himself for a while. Obviously he is very confused. I mean he went from being married, to on the bachelor, to proposing to DeAnna, to proposing to Melissa to dumping Melissa to wanting to be with Molly. Sheesh. I need a road map. And thinking back I think we have ONE person to blame in all this.

DE freaking Anna. If Jason had followed his gut and went with the "wild card" Molly like Deanna told him not to, he wouldn't even be in this mess. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's really all Jason's fault, but it's kinda fun to blame Deanna for a minute. What a loser.

Okay, but dumping Melissa on national TV? In the words of Stephanie Tanner, "How Rude!" I mean he could have dated her for a few more weeks, called it off in private, then called Molly. Did he really need to be such a @$$ about it? Geez.

And Molly. Where do I even begin? How about, why on God's green earth do you want to be with a loser like Jason? Obviously he has commitment issues. He's proposed to 4 women already! She should have done herself a favor and said hell to the no. But instead, she starts kissing him two seconds after he dumped Melissa. Jason must have an ego the size of Texas.

Well, sheesh. I'd like to now say that I will never watch the Bachelor again. But you know I just can't go that far. Sure it's ridiculous. Anyone who thinks you can meet a man and fall in love enough to be proposed to or propose to someone in six weeks, while living with the other people that person is dating is just plain cookoo crazy. But I love every single insane second. And you have to admit. . . That was some AWESOME tv. Sure it's messed up. And when you realize that those are real people with feelings it kinda makes you feel silly, but for entertainment value? BRILLIANT!

I can't believe I was right. Molly wins. Or loses. Depending on how you see it.

PICK A WINNER JASON

Okay, so here we are again. The season finale of the Bachelor. Wow. It's been a crazy ride. And honestly I went from really liking Jason to thinking he is crap sandwich face for letting Jillian go. What a loser.

But how fantastic was the Women Tell All ep? Oh man, that Natalie is so la-hame. Seriously. The comment about her not being able to live without her blackberry? Hilarious. Those producers really know how to pick em.

But by far and away the best moment of the night was when Jillian put Jason right on the spot about him saying he hadn't kissed anyone like that in a long time. Classic. Just trying to make him squirm a bit and I loved it. But can we, just for a moment discuss this business:

Now, I'm not sure how I feel about this. Yes, I absolutely was and am a fan of Jillian. If she had made it to the finale I would totally be posting a picture of me in my team Jillian shirt. But Jill as the next bachelorette? I'm not sure I like this idea. Jill should know better. I want her to realize what a crock this whole Bachelor business is. 1 couple out of 13 are actually married. Those aren't such great odds really considering every episdode pretty much someone proposes. Unless of course you are that lame-0 dude three seasons ago who didn't propose to either. Ha. That was awesome. I just want Jillian to meet someone really fabulous. Not some bachelor reject. Is that too harsh? But, I guess if she does become the next bachelorette I will have to watch. Cause you know how those producers are. They will reel you in, show you a few steamy hot tub scenes and completely fool you. How do you all feel about this bachelorette proposition? Yay. Nay?

Now, on to today's loveliness. Melissa or Molly? To me, either way he's getting 2nd best. Melissa seems sooooo young. And really. Did you see the dress she wore to the last rose ceremony? Did she forget she would be on national TV? She needs to hire Jillian to be her stylist stat. There is some serious valley mall rat creeping out if you ask me. Girlfriend needs help. And that stupid bump already. Uggg.

And then there is Molly, and her hypnotizing eyes (or so Jason says). I have to admit, she is absolutely gorgeous, but I just kinda think her personality is a little lame. Seriously, golf. Really? Have you played? Stupidest game ever. Hit a ball as far as you can. Take 10-15 minutes walking to find it. Find it. Then hit it as far away as possible, and go get it again. Um, no thanks.

However Molly does get a few points for having better style and mostly steers clear of the bumpit hair. Also, that bubble bath farting scene had me laughing. So that is something. This whole time I've thought Melissa was younger, but really Molly is only 24. And that my good friends is young.

I guess, in all honesty I'm not really looking forward to this finale as I have in past seasons. I mean, sure I want to know which one he picks, I just can't say I really care anymore. Still too sad about Jill. Took me two whole weeks until I was emotionally ready to discuss the Bachelor via the blog again.

But let me tell you one thing. So help me if Jason tells Chris Harrison that he doesn't know who he's going to pick the same day he's due to propose or even the night before I will just scream. And loud. How do you not know? How can you be in love with two people? And how, for the love of all that is holy, how can you not know before a few hours before who you are going to ask to spend the rest of your life with?! Puh-leeze.

And just for a moment I'd like to vent about the Deanna lame-ness. They make us wait until the last episode? And then make it seem like he is crying about her? We all know he cries after he dumps Melissa. I mean, um.

That's right, I'm calling out that he will pick Molly. Why on earth would I make such a silly assumption? Because every time I pick the shoo-in, the choice that is so obvious (due to editing) I NEVER get it right. So even though the producers want me to think Mel and Jason have this fantastic connection, I'm not buying it. I'm all in for Molly.

One thing is for certain though. Monday nights just won't be the same without the bachelor. It's provided some good blog fodder fur-shizee. Who is your pick? Melissa or Molly?

DO YOU HAVE HAIR?

THEN YOU CAN HELP.

You see, I am in a bit of a pickle. And I'm hoping you can help.

My problem?

Well, to explain I will have to take you back to an easier, much quieter time of my life. Before I had kids. For twenty five years of my life my hair grew fast. And I mean fast. Like I could grow out a chin-length bob down past my shoulder blades in 6-8 months flat. Bada-boom bada-bang. Long hair.

Now? Not so much. I've been growing my hair out for a good year now, and I think I've maybe put 4 inches on it. Lah-haim. Seriously now, I don't know if those kids of mine sucked my hair follicles dry or something, but my hair just won't grow anymore. And frankly, it's depressing.

So, instead of driving myself insane trying to do something that just isn't happening, I'm thinking about chopping it all off. Again. Cause well, I'm lazy and impatient. When my hair was super short it was easy to do. 3-5 minutes tops. Now? It takes me like 7-8 full minutes just to blowdry my hair. And that my friends, is just too long. I need to be in, out and on with life in less than 20-30 minutes. Thats shower included.

So, I'm thinking short. Really short. Something like what you see pictured above. I think it would be fun. Fun for spring, and fun for change. Cause you know how I need and like me some change.

So, getting to the point, I've had a couple of really great hairstylists that I like, but I'm looking to switch things up a bit. Wondering if any of you great bloggers out there know of a great hair stylist. Preferably someone who does kick ace short dos. And it wouldn't hurt if he/she was gifted in the coloring world as well. I really want someone that you love, and every time you walk out of the salon you feel like that lady on those pantene commercials. You know the one. All happy and shiny. Flipping her hair all around. I want to feel funky and young and fabulous. That's not too much to ask is it?

Anyhoo, if you know someone who might be up for the challenge, leave me a comment. It would make this almost thirty, frazzled mother of two, with raging bad hair super duper happy.

WHAT'S YOUR DECORATING STYLE?

So, anyone who knows me I have a very specific sense of style and taste. I love accessories and think they are the bees knees. I also loved a lived in home that is a little bit rustic and very comfortable. So, when I found this little test on Sproost via How about Orange and I just had to give it a go.

And. . .

no surprise here: I'm 45% traditional country, 36% Nantucket Style and 19% Wine Country style.

I wish I could have given this test to every person who has ever asked me for decorating help. It would really have made my life so much easier. Now, I'll just send them over to Sproost. It's fun, easy and informative. Give it a go if you'd like here.

IGNORING YOUR CHILDREN WILL GET YOU NOWHERE.

So last Friday I headed on down to the Gateway with some girlfriends so we could take our kids to the Children's Museum. And it was so much fun. After they all went home for nap time (jealous!) I decided to let the kids ride the train (trax== since they beg me every time we see one) over to visit Hubs at work. And the way over went relatively well. The way back though? Not. So. Much.

After our short visit with Hubs we seriously waited for maybe 20 minutes for a train to come so we could go back down to the Gateway to get our car. We honestly could have walked there faster. But we just HAD to ride the train. Cause it is sooo exciting! So as we are waiting more and more and more people are filling up the stop. Lots of interesting people. FYI--there are some crazy peeps that ride Trax. Especially in the free zone! So, since I was a little paranoid of losing a kid or someone giving one crack, I put Thing 2 on my back and had Thing 1 superglued to my side. When we got on, there was no where to sit, so I found a little spot on the side where I could hold on. There were so many people that it was actually like you were invading-other-people's-space-uncomfortable. And that's when this little conversation transpired:

GUY: (TO NO ONE IN PARTICULAR) WOAH, GUESS IT'S STANDING ROOM ONLY IN HERE, TODAY.

GIRL: (WHO COULDA PASSED FOR A HOOKER) IT SURE IS BABY. (YES, SHE REALLY SAID BABY).

GUY: WELL, I JUST DON'T WANT TO SMASH INTO YOU.

GIRL: YOU CAN FALL ON TOP OF ME ANY TIME YOU WANT.

(Can you see why I was listening? I was seriously, like what the crap? Did she just say that? And the whole time Thing 2, who was on my back, kept saying she wanted me to hold her. And I was, piggyback style. And really, there wasn't much room to move, so I just ignored her. Not a good idea.)

Conversation continues:

GUY: WELL, I WOULDN'T MIND THAT. (Seriously. I then covered Thing 1's ears.)

GIRL: WHERE DO YOU WORK? (Cause that's the next thing you'd say?!)

(Thing 2 is still asking for me to hold her. I'm still ignoring her, cause really, even if I didn't want to listen to this incredibly interesting conversation, there is no way I could have turned her around and held her on the front. It was just way too crowded. But now would have been a good time to tell her that I heard her request and asked for her to hold on a minute until we stop.)

Conversation continues:

GUY: WHERE DO YOU WANT ME TO WORK? (What? What kind of response is THAT?)

GIRL: CAN I CALL YOU?

THING 2 AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS: I WANT YOU TO HOLD ME ON THE FRONT BY YOUR NIPPLES!

Entire trax train goes silent. Now everyone is staring at us, well me, since she was on my back and you couldn't really see her. Nice. My face goes beet red. I just kinda giggle, and turn around a bit, so people can see that it was her, not me that said that word. And I tell her, the only thing I can think of. Which was--"we don't say that word". Now everyone smirks and giggles and goes on about their strange conversations. Talk about being mortified. And we still had 3 stops left. And not two minutes later I hear:

THING 1: MOM, WHAT ARE NIPPLES?

Um yeah. We won't be riding Trax again anytime soon.

TEAM JILLIAN

Well, Jillian is gone, and I just don't know what to say. Except this:
WHAT AN IDIOT! HE THINKS SHE IS TOO SUCCESSFUL, ESTABLISHED AND DRIVEN?! WHAT DOES HE WANT? AN LOSER, THAT HAS DONE NOTHING AND DOESN'T WANT TOO?! SOMEONE WHO IS BORING WITH ZERO LIFE EXPERIENCES? HE WANTS MORE THAN A BEST FRIEND? WELL, OF COURSE, YOU IDIOT, WHO DOESN'T! OH, AND DON'T MAKE OUT WITH A GIRL AND TELL HER YOU ARE FALLING FOR HER AND THEN BREAK UP WITH HER NEXT TIME YOU SEE HER. IT'S RUDE!
I loved Jillians response to all of his statements. Saying that she had done all the things she had because she was single and could. And now she was looking for more. Uggg. I just can't believe it. I mean, Jillian was so the best pick, but if the romance wasn't there, than it wasn't there. But woah, it sure looked to be there in the hot tub! Geez Jason! This is why girls don't understand guys. He really seemed to be into her on their date! Why in the heck did he lead her on!
The only good thing coming out of this episode, is the next one. Where the woman tell all. Should be some juicy catfights. Oh, and best of all, a return of Treasure, since I completely missed her on the first one. Too much fast forwarding via my tivo dangit! Oh, and Deanna is back. Lame. Lame. Lame. And what in the crap was that little bit with all the former bachelorettes and bachelors? Even more lame! We don't care. It's like the producers think we can't get enough of the hot tub scenes. Well, guess what? WE CAN! So cut that crap out already!
I hope Jillian finds someone way better than Jason. Way better. Cause I'm starting to think he just isn't that great. Boo!

MYSTERY SOLVED!!!!

So, I've been watching the Bachelor this whole season, and something has had me completely baffled. Every episode, there it is. And I'm just in awe. How does she do it?

Of course I'm talking about Melissa and her "bump". Surely, you've seen it. Heck, you'd have to be blind to have missed it. In case you are kinda not the sharpest pencil in the box, I've pulled a few pictures of her "bump" so that you would ALL know exactly what I was talking about.

Exhibit A:
Just look at the height on the back of her head! Amazing! Now, I know this picture can be deceiving, cause you might think that make-up artist did her "bump" to Melissa, but no, her "bump" (or as I like to refer to it, as the fourth bachelorette) has been with us since the first episode. Apparently Melissa has an aversion to flat hair--or she really likes to tease. But each episode it seems like it just keeps getting higher and higher and fuller and fuller.

Exhibit B:
See, right there, next to Jason. Her "bump". It's so big, it's almost smacking him in the face! Honestly now, does she think that's cute? But the even bigger question is, HOW? How does she get her "bump"? How does she defy gravity so easily? Does she own stock in Aqua net? Does she have a killer hair brush and arm-teasing muscles? She had me stumped. How. Does. She. Do. It?
And then, I came across this:

So, finally, mystery solved! Obviously, Melissa is an owner of the Rockstar Bumpit. I mean, really, this explains so much.
But then I felt kinda like I was in an episode of Lost. One question answered, but then 10 new questions emerge. For instance: I wonder if she owns all the sizes? Can you carry this on a plane? Or do those teeth count as sharp objects? Is she a paid spokesperson? How did I not know about this before? I could have had Bumpit hair for my wedding! I could have had Bumpit hair for my reunion! I could have had Bumpit hair for my valentines date! Heck, I could have had Bumpit hair for my trip to the grocery store yesterday!
Don't worry though, you too can have rockstar Melissa hair. Just go here http://www.bumpits.com/ Yes, that is seriously the website.
You can thank me later.
Oh, and apparently, Molly is a Bumpit owner as well.
Now, on a serious note. Cause the Bachelor is all business. But does anyone else notice this amazing connection he seems to have with Melissa? They can't keep their hands off of each other. Except I kinda hope he chooses Jillian. Cause well, Melissa seems a bit young, and silly. And not quite mature enough. Not established enough. Which is why I like Jillian. Heck, she has her own successful business, she's cutes, stylish and fabulous. (Oh, and she doesn't use the Bumpit. Ten points for Jillian.) But I'm thinking he's gonna choose Melissa. Cause that's all they show of the two of them. Just making out. But then, maybe I should really think he's gonna choose Jillian, cause the way those sneaky Bachelor producers show stuff, I always, EVERY SEASON think he's going to choose one gal, and then he goes and chooses another. And then I'm like What the FRACK?! How can this be? Well, I've decided it's all in the editing. And those dang producers! So help me if Jason picks Melissa and her "bump" I will be so pissed. . . .

ACTING OR ADDICT?

Okay, so I realize I'm not the only blogger out there to be posting about this today, but really, did you happen to catch this little interview?

And well, I just don't get it. Is he high? Pretending to be high? Ever since Walk The Line came out he said that he is quiting acting (this film he is promoting on Dave Letterman is supposidly his last) retiring from it all together and becoming a rapper. Seriously. And apparently he is filming this whole process for a documentary. And that would be all fine and dandy except, well I just am confused. What is with the hair and homeless bum look he's sporting? And well, I've seen him in the past on these types of shows and well, he just doesn't seem to be himself. To be fair, I've never heard him rap though. He could be good. Right?

So, is he trying to poke fun at all of us? Like the fact that I care? In other words, is he punking us? Is this all a big hoax? Is he trying to get us all talking about the fact that it's pretty crazy that we, er I, even care? Is that it? Or, and I hope this isn't the case, is he completely and totally addicted to some sort of substance that is making him all whacked out and crazy? If so, I feel really sad for him, given that his brother passed away from substance abuse.

Help me out here bloggers. Addict or acting?

REDBOX REVIEW HENRY POOLE

Thought I'd give a little shout out to a movie I saw a few weeks ago via my local Redbox which I kinda liked. I was looking for a inexpensive movie to watch one night and saw this. I figured I couldn't go wrong with Luke Wilson and a dollar. And ya know what? It was weird, and strange, and quirky and in the end I decided I liked it. One of those movies that I thought about and still think about on occasion. That's how, in my opinion, whether you liked the movie initially or not, you can tell it's a good movie. Cause it makes you think. And this one definitely made me think.
So, if you are looking for a bit of cheap (hello recession) entertainment then I recommend this little Redbox jewel. Enjoy!

TUESDAY'S TIP OLIVIA. . . ON TV?!

Well, it's no secret that I love to read, and children's books are no exception. I thoroughly enjoy reading them to my children, and have regular story time daily. But my most very favorite ones (and the one's I always choose if given the choice) are the Olivia books by Ian Falconer. I just love that little pig. She adventurous, imaginative, and confident. And I love that. My most favorite page out of any of the 4 books in the series is in the first book. She is talking about school and how she has to wear this really boring uniform. But then, on the next page is this picture of her riding her scooter to school with her uniform on, but completely covered in accessories. At the bottom it says, "Of course you can always accessorize." When I read this page for the first time, it was love at first glance. Those of you who know me on a personal level know of my deep love of accessories. So, I knew right then and there that this pig was going to be a favorite.

We have been enjoying Olivia as she went to the circus, lost her missing toy and even when she shared Christmas with us. And when I first saw the ads on Nick Jr, that Olivia would be coming to TV, I have to be honest and say I was a little apprehensive. I didn't want to see them ruining this little gem. Would they be able to translate her dry humor from page to screen? How about her imagination? Would it come through? I was concerned to say the least. But I set my tivo anyhow. And last week the kids and I sat down together for Olivia's small screen debut. And. . .?

It was spectacular. Just like that red lipstick. I was pleased and the kids laughed and were thoroughly entertained to see their little book friend come to life. I am always a bit apprehensive when any story or book gets turned into a tv show or movie. But this time I wasn't disappointed. I tried to find a clip from youtube to put up so you to could experience the awesome-ness that is Olivia, but no one has posted any yet. So, I guess you'll just have to go the old school route and actually turn on your TV and check my little pig friend out. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

M.I.A. REPRESENTS

Dude. Nine months prego and she's killing it at the Grammys. Girl's got some serious cahotes. Been loving this song for quite some time. Catchy little tune. Thought it might spruce up your Monday a bit.

Enjoy!

SHOULDA PUT A RING ON IT.

Yesterday's post is oh-so-apropos. It is currently 2:45 a.m. and I can't sleep.

So, for some time now, I'd say like a year or so, I've had trouble with my left ear. Started with me just not being able to really hear well out of it. The first time I can remember this is one day when I was working out with my ipod on. I couldn't hear a certain song out of my left ear bud. I thought it was the bud. I took out the left one. Listened on just the right. Yep. Working. Took out the right and just had the left one in. Sounded really weird. It was like I couldn't hear the base or something. I thought it was just the bud. So, I put the left ear bud in my right ear. Perfect. Then I knew. Had a little hearing problem. Nothing I couldn't live with. Went to an audiologist and sure enough I had quite a bit of loss in that left ear. But, it seems like mostly my right ear just kind of compensates so it's really no big deal. Problem solved by answering all calls with my right ear, and sitting on the left side of the yoga studio.

Well, tonight I've had the worst ringing in my left ear ever. I know I exaggerate alot on this blog, but honestly the ringing in this ear is so loud. When I woke Hubs up to tell him I thought I was dying, I couldn't even hear myself saying those words. Really. I've had ringing in this ear on and off, but usually it just goes away and isn't really that loud. More of a muffled ringing. But tonight I woke up about 1:30 with the LOUDEST ringing ever. It is honestly, so loud and very annoying. It kinda sounds like when your ears ring after attending a really loud concert for a few hours, only times 10. And except I didn't get the fun concert first.

Anyway, I'm online trying to figure out what the heck this could be, and well, I am pretty sure it ain't good. Ringing in two ears, fine. Ringing in one ear. NOT. SO. GOOD. Guess I will be making myself an appointment with an ENT first thing Monday morning. If I can last that long. The stuff on webmd about ringing in one ear is just down right frightening. Supposedly it's called tinnitus. The stuff on there says tinnitus is either brought on my old age (Is 29 old?), or acoustic trauma (meaning loud noises). And being a mother of a two year old and four year old is definitely loud, I'm just not sure it's that loud. Basically, if it's not one of these two things--which I'm pretty sure it's not--it's a problem with the nerves. Meaning acoustic neroma (tumor. Here is where someone should say in their best Arnold Swartzeneger impression, "Amy, it's not a tumor." Cause that would make me feel better.), labrynthitis (don't think it's this because although I have had a sharp rise in my migraines lately, I've had zero dizziness-except when I stand up quickly or something. Which I think is normal.), Menieres disease, anemia (just had my blood drawn two weeks ago, so I doubt it's this--or the next one), thyroid disease, and Otosclerosis (overgrowth in bone behind the ear drum). And in my opinion I think it's either the first or the last. Not good.

So, the reason I'm telling you all of this nonsense? Well, remember when I asked for your recommendation for a great photographer? I got some awesome feedback and ended up loving the way that all turned out so, I was wondering if anyone knows a good ENT (Ear Nose and throat ) doctor. And really, you would think that I would, since I have a child with a hearing loss, but he goes to a pediatric ENT. And since I don't think I can pass for 17, I better find an adult ENT. Maybe I will call him and see if he also sees adults. But in the meantime, if there are any of you out there, that could recommend a good ENT I am all ears. Er, at least all of one ear. Har, har. Nothing like a bit of good, I mean crappy, late night humor.

Thanks for your help bloggers.

WHEN THE STUDENT IS READY. . .

Life always gives us exactly the teacher we need at every moment. This includes every mosquito, every misfortune, every red light, every traffic jam, every obnoxious supervisor, every illness, every loss, every moment of joy or depression, every addiction, every piece of garbage, every breath.

Loving this quote today. Thanks jack/zen.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA!

In honor of my Grandmother's 80th birthday which is today, we all were asked to write down our favorite memory or something we love about her to be compiled in a book. Tonight we presented the book to her at her party. I thought I'd go ahead and post my memory here as well. I love you Grandma and hope you had a simply marvelous birthday!

January 2009
My favorite memory with Grandma began most promptly on June 5th 1989. This, if I’m not mistaken, was in fact, the very first day of the summer after my fifth grade year. You see, I had such high hopes for this summer. Plenty of lazing around, hours upon hour wasted away playing Nintendo, and enough daytime TV to make up for anything I’d learned the previous school year. Homework and tutoring were the last things on my mind. Heck, they weren’t even on my radar. Well, apparently they were on my Mother’s. And that afternoon my fantasy of a lazy summer came to a screeching halt, during a seemingly harmless visit to my Grandmother’s house. The ghastly plan those two had concocted seemed down-right evil. It seemed to me that they were, quite simply, out to get me. And my summer.

Well, I was informed, not only was I going to come to my Grandmother’s house a few times a week to be tutored and drilled and basically re-taught my fifth grade year, but I was going to have to RIDE THE BUS! Now, I was sure there were plenty of kids who rode the bus and survived, but I was most certain that wasn’t going to be me. Heck, I’d never rode the bus anywhere, let alone clear across town BY MYSELF. But apparently, this was exactly what was going to happen. And did.

Every day I would catch the bus out to my grandparent’s condo on 4th Ave. Then (what I was sure would ultimately end up being a gigantic waste of time), began my lessons with Grandma. We did hundreds upon hundreds of flash cards. Math for days. Spelling, spelling and more spelling. Every conceivable subject was studied, and restudied. Tests were given, and minds were expanded. And somewhere between those tutoring sessions and my endless glasses of Ovaltine, an amazing friendship and bond was beginning to form. Soon I realized, that perhaps this was also not my Grandmother’s ideal way to spend her summer either. Perhaps, I was learning, that there was more to my Grandmother than her endless fifth-grade knowledge. I came to know her in a way, that quite simply, I hadn’t before. Somewhere in my little 10-year-old mind I was falling in love with my Grandma.

I learned much more than just reading, writing and arithmetic’s that summer. I learned about my great-grandmother and great-grandfather. I learned about who she was as a person, what she liked and disliked. And she told me some of the most amazing stories I’d ever heard about when she was a little girl. And most importantly, I learned just how much she loved me. I’m sure I wasn’t the most pleasant pre-teen ever, but she was patient and steady, and strict when necessary. For I learned that summer, that the real lesson being taught was about unconditional love. The love that she had for me. For the service she provided and the education she imparted I will forever be grateful. A summer that in the beginning had no conceivable potential, and honestly seemed quite dreadful, actually ended up being one of my most favorite and memorable of my life.

Thank you Grandma for your constant support through the years, your wonderful attitude, your invaluable lesson about love, and helping me pass the fifth grade. I love you! And hope you have a most magical birthday! Love, Amy

IS IT SPRING YET?

Yeah, pretty much sums up my attitude on life right now. Sick of the ridiculous cold. Sick of the dirty snow. Sick of the less than stellar air. Sick of it getting dark at 6. Sick of the non-stop whining. Sick of playing indoors with the kids. Sick of doing laundry. Sick of asking them over and over. Sick of my hair not growing. Sick of losing the same 5 pounds. Sick of dealing with the flat tire. Sick of this day. Sick of the same-old, same-old. Sick of this bad attitude.

Friggidy frack. I need a vacation.

At least the Bachelor is on tonight. My own little mini-vacay to Seattle. I need to get a life. Hope your Monday is going better than mine. Oh, and happy February.

MORE LOST THAN EVER. . . AND LOVING IT!

Oh Lost, how I LOVE you. Is anyone else addicted to this show?

Well, I have to admit that J.J. Abrams and friends are really bringing the heat this season. It is absolutely fan-double-tastic. Okay, I just want to take a minute and say that I so totally called this whole time travel thing about a year ago. I wrote all about it on one of my blogs, but I'm afraid it was my other one which is now private. But you will just have to take my word for it.

Okay, now onto this seasons yummy-ness. Okay, first off, after I watched the show the first time (yes, I am that addicted) I didn't think it was that great. Just kinda EH. But after watching it for the second time I've come up with ALOT. That episode actually was very telling. For instance after watching it again, I am starting to think that Ellie (that young gun-crazed other) is actually Eloise (Ms. Hawking) that white haired lady that told Desmond to go on the journey where he ultimately left Penny and ended up on the island. After watching young Ellie and the way she talks (with her mouth) I am convinced. I also think Ellie is Daniel Faraday's mother. And that is why he says she looks familiar. I also have two different theories about Daniel's father. Either he is Charles Widmore (that young angry other, and also Penny's father and also the old angry guy). Or his father could be someone else that looks oddly similar to Daniel which is why Ellie says to Daniel that he was just there. But I guess with all the time travel mumbo jumbo he could really have been just there. The only thing about Ellie being Daniels mother that bothers me, is I'm wondering if this is TOO obvious, and the writers are wanting us to think this. And then WHAM. We will learn something else. And the other thing about Eloise? She is in cahoots with both Charles Widmore and Ben. Which is wierd. Since Widmore is funding Faraday's research. And Charles and Ben are supposed enemies. Oh, and by the way, who names a rat after their mother?

Okay, on to other stuff. That big H bomb thing would explain alot of stuff. Why for instance Desmond ends up in a bunker hatch. And why he was wearing that hazmat suit. Also the radio active leakage would also explain why all the ladies on the island are having fertility problems.

And just for a minute can we talk about Richard? He is creepy and wierd, and I must get the name of his moisturizer. He looks fantastic for his age. But Locke showing up and telling him to go to his birth certainly explains earlier episodes with Richard and Locke. But does not explain how they chose their leaders. Richard says he takes orders. But really, I guess he just took orders from Locke. And now Locke eventually ends up being the leader of the others because of this little time jump?! Ahh, so confusing. But oh so fun at the same time!

Oh, and one more thing. I'm sure most of you were thinking how cute that Des and Penny named their kid Charlie. I however, did not. Considering that his grandfather is evil and wicked and also named Charles/Charlie. This didn't seem so wise. Or cute. Or thoughtful.

Now, after this little confusing post I am in definite need of some Perspective.

Do you have any other thoughts about last nights ep that I missed? I am so addicted. I love this show!

EPIPHANY

Yesterday, Thing 2 got the unusual pleasure of attending dance class on a Tuesday since she had a makeup for a class she had previously missed. After she got her tights, leo and skirt on, she usually likes to go and look at herself in the mirror (of course). Yesterday was no exception.
As she was standing there admiring herself, she said: "You are the most beautiful princess dancing girl in the {whole} wide world. You are so pretty, and look like glitter. Your hair is yellow and beautiful and straight just like mommy's."
{Insert sigh here}
And it hit me. How do I hold onto that? Bottle up that self-esteem? How do I provide an environment where she will always feel that way about herself? Because it is the absolute truth. She is amazing. And gorgeous. And smarter than any two-year old I know. She says the most amazing things. She talks about animals that are nocturnal for hecks sake. And carries her purse with her everywhere full of bows. You know, just in case. She says to me multiple times a day that, "Girls love bows." (Thanks to her I currently have three in my hair. :)).
I absolutely love who she is as a person. Sweet as pie, but stubborn as a goat. She lightens my heart, and reminds me daily that I should be thrilled I'm a girl. Because she certainly is. I love this age. And her sweet, innocent confidence. I hope she can always have this type of self-esteem. Knowing just how fabulous she is. It is so refreshinly beautiful. I only wished I could see myself in the same light when i look at myself in that same mirror. What a lesson. What an example.
Isn't it amazing the things our children can teach us? Today I am grateful for the simple pleasures that come from being able to experience the gift that is motherhood.
Namaste.

PURE COVETING

I have been coveting this skirt for a few weeks now. It is taking almost everything I have to not purchase it right this minute. And talking about it is even making it worse. Did I mention I have a free shipping coupon.? And I have 15% off?

I tried to justify this purchase by asking Hubs if he thought it would work for my brother's wedding rehearsal dinner wear. He said no. He said that the wedding was back east (Jersey Shore) and it might not be dressy enough. But then I rebutted with the fact that the wedding was down on the shore (beachy). Then I switched my tactic up and asked him about wearing it to the breakfast the morning after the wedding. He just smirked at me. He could tell I was fishing for any excuse to buy this loveliness.

I realize it's a little quirky. Just like me. Not exactly formal, but not cheap either. It speaks to my bohemian side. Surely there are other occasions than just church that this would be lovely for, right? Please someone help me justify this purchase.

TUESDAY'S TIP babysteals.com

Okay, so I know some of you are aware of this little local company, but I thought for those of you that haven't yet heard, and are in the baby-having-stage of life, this might be nice to know.

There is this little website called babysteals.com. And every day at 9 a.m. MST they post a new baby steal. Think Steep and Cheap, except only one deal a day. You can have things shipped, or if you live local and want to save a few bucks, they have a pickup option as well.

Today's steal are these adorable Petunia Pickle Bottom slings. Normally running between $70-$90. Today at babysteals.com you can get them for 38% off. Thats $44-$57. Depending on the color you choose.

I literally did not go anywhere without my sling when my babies were little. It is the only way, in my opinion to carry your baby. Especially when it's the second or third child, cause then you can carry them hands free, which is fabulous.

Okay, so go ahead and click here to get one of these slings. And then add the link to your favorites and check back daily. It's also a great way to get inexpensive practical baby gifts for all those baby showers.

Happy Shopping!

MY LAST TV RELATED POST TODAY. . . I SWEAR.

Okay, yes, I do do other things besides watch TV, I swear. Really.

Sorry about this lame-o picture of Tara. It's the only one I could get off the website, and no it's not the best one to illustrate my point, but oh well.
And speaking of my point. Here it is:
Is Tara not Kate Winslet's long lost identical twin? I mean, except for the accent and the extra weight they could be twinsies. Right?

TEAM JILLIAN

Okay, lets talk bachelor for a few. Not to overlook my LOST post, which I'm really way more excited about that this silly show. But, I do still enjoy me some Bachelor, so we must discuss. And I only have one small comment out of Monday's ridiculous-ness.

How cute was Jillian's dress?

I tried to find a picture of her on the website with it on while she was standing, but no such luck. Seriously, how cute was it? It was adorable. Blue, strapless, sweetheart neckline, with the cutest white embroidery on the bottom. I love her style. It's just so fresh and airy. Not at all like most of the other girls. Which look like hookers most of the time. Hmmm. Maybe a bit to harsh?

I bet you can't tell who's team I am on.

Oh, and on my last Bachelor post, I have no earthly idea how I forgot to talk about the little itty bitty fact that DeAnna might be back? What The FRACK?! I freaking HATE ABC. (Except for their genius baby which is LOST. Then I love them.) What are they thinking? Deanna, babe, you are old news, and stand no chance. You broke his heart, and chose the snowboarder. Live with it. Anyway, I thought they make the contestants like sign a waiver in blood that they won't ever talk to the other dude they didn't pick or they can sue them for like millions? Is this just a rumor? Cause I thought it was true. And if it's not, it will be like everything I ever thought I knew about the Bachelor isn't' true. And then how will I go on with life if I know the bachelor isn't real? Those producers should be fired. Don't bring Deanna back. Boooooooooo! She's boring. Way too stinking serious, and frankly, she's not Jillian.

Okay, so I'm just a bit bitter about the whole thing. Just a tad. But really, Jillian's dress. Didn't you love it?

LOST RETURNS!!!!!

Seriously! It's finally here! I am so freakin excited. Hubs and I have been anxiously awaiting season 5 for quite some time now. And in preparation for tonights big event, we watched the entire 4th season this weekend. It was oh so much fun.

Go Oceanic 6!

TO MY DEAREST SON:

Dear Thing 1,

I would like to start out this little letter by saying, first off, just how much I love you. You are such a joy and make me smile often. However, I do not feel like smiling when I wake up in the morning half-asleep and go in for my morning pee, only to be greeted by a big smelly, brown poop log. This is not any fun, nor does it make me smile.

Then, again around lunch (which is never a good time to see poop), when I head into the bathroom, and find that, you have left me a rather large brown surprise yet again. We have discussed the fact that the toilet can flush. I have asked, pleaded, even begged you to flush, but it seems as though you are almost out to get me. The thing about this is, I thought I was finally free of the surprise poop logs. I haven't seen one since I lived with my brother, your uncle Dave, which has been many years ago now. He also seemed to find great joy in leaving his logs in the toilet to torment me. And the only thing I can figure, is that he put you up to this.

Well, whatever it is, dear child. IT NEEDS TO STOP. I can't handle waking up to smelly dookies, and then finding them again at lunch. It's just too much.

And, while I have you here, I'd like to take a moment and discuss the "socks" that you wore to church yesterday. Yes, I realize that mommy was running a bit behind, and in her foolishness asked you to dress yourself for church (which you did relatively well ), and get your shoes and socks on. Since your father had an early meeting before church, and since it was just me trying to corral you and your sister out the door, I just didn't notice. No, not until we sat down, and were settling into sacrament meeting, and you propped your leg up on the bench, and I saw just exactly how sneaky you are. Apparently I should have been clear about exactly what constitutes a sock and what does not. So, let me be clear here. Shin guards are NOT socks. Yes, technically you do pull them on over your feet, but there is nothing sock-ey about them. And at church no less? And in the rush, I do remember looking down for a half second at your shoes and seeing that they were black, and thinking how awesome you were to put on your black Sunday shoes. But once I sat down and had a chance to breath I notice they were your black sneakers with the skull and crossbones on them. Skull & Cross bones and shin guards at church. Your new Sunday school teacher must think I am mental.

I hope our next letter is a little more on the positive side. I love you, and happy Martin Luther King Day.

Love,

Mom

FAIR WARNING FRIENDS

So, yesterday I was asked to bring in dinner to a family in our ward who's father recently underwent knee surgery, so of course I did what any crappy cooking Mormon would do. I went to Costco.

And while I was there, I got the standard take-n-bake cheese pizza, cause really who doesn't love cheese pizza? The bagged Caesar salad, with the fresh shaved parm. Sooo good. Almost done. just needed a dessert. Cause really, everyone knows Mormons love dessert. So, there I was scouring the desserts. Pies, cakes, cookies, and then I spotted them. The Dunford Bakeries chocolate covered cake donuts. Sure I'd seen these before, and coveted them, but until now, I'd never had a good reason to get them. What was I, with a family of 4, going to do with 12 donuts? Other than the obvious gorge session, there was really no point, because everyone knows donuts are NOT good the second day. Only the first. Freshly baked of course. I'd always wanted to try them, but since I'm not really a fan of cake donuts (I prefer the soft fried version) in the past I just walked on by. But here was my chance. Send six with the family for desert, and keep six for us. So I did just that. And here is your warning:

If you don't want to experience the most fabulous party in your mouth you've ever experienced then STAY AWAY. And if you then don't want to dream and fantasize about this party in your mouth for every hour since, then STAY AWAY. If you don't want to think like a crazy person, then STAY AWAY.

I have seriously convinced myself after trying this loveliness that I could be perfectly content for the rest of my life to ONLY eat the Costco's Dunford Bakery chocolate covered cake donut. Seriously. I'm thinking that vegetables are over-rated. I've even considered giving up chips & salsa! (gasp!) Yes, me, someone who doesn't really even like cake donuts, or chocolate, is thinking it would be perfectly fine if she never ate anything else again. I am obsessed. And I don't even really like chocolate! It's absurd. So, I'm just telling you all, cause I love you. (Cyber-love of course) And I care about your well-being. And I don't want you to be so focused on chocolate donuts that you can't do anything else or think about anything else. I'm just trying to warn you. Cause yes, they are THAT delicious.

You have been warned.

SUCH GREAT NEWS

I just received a birth announcement today from two very dear friends who have been trying for a baby for some time, and I absolutely couldn't be more thrilled for them.

This news is the best I've heard in a very long time. It's amazing what a bit of really good news can do for you. My soul is absolutely shining with joy.
Scott & Luc, we are so excited for you both. Congratulations on this new adventure you are about to embark upon. I can't think of two more deserving or wonderful people to have this happen to.
Welcome little Gianna, welcome.

TOO MUCH TV?

So yesterday Thing 1 comes running up to me like our house was on fire, and says:

Thing 1: MOM, WE HAVE TO GO TO CHUCK-E-CHEESE!!!!!

Me: Um, why? No one NEEDS to go to Chuck-E-Cheese.

Thing 1: BECAUSE MOM! IT'S WHERE A KID CAN BE A KID!

Well, I guess I can't really argue with that.
